Universal scum dogs Gwar are embarking on their Age of Entitlement Tour and it’s making a stop at the 9:30 Club on 6/9 (nice). Since everyone is feeling so entitled these days, I’ve got a free pair of tickets to the show up for grabs for one lucky DCHM reader (or even those of you who just showed up to get free stuff). It’s not every day you get to see a live band from all the way down in Antarctica but you’ll love cooling off from the summer heat with a refreshing splash of Gwar sprayed directly into your face! Or you can be one of the suckers standing around in the back wondering why you don’t like fun. Either way, you’re not going to want to miss Gwar! Even better is that Dixie Dave Collins will be bringing his stoner metal band Weedeater along for the ride. Also on the bill are the Gwar side project band X-Cops showing you how not to back the blue, and opening the set will be Squid Pisser which sorta looks like if Ponda Baba had a hardcore band. My favorite concert ever was probably Living Colour at the old 930 Club in like 1989. I’d seen them once, previously, before “Cult of Personality” hit on MTV. This was right after it hit. They absolutely destroyed. Corey Glover did a backflip into the crowd. They were amazing.

I have to say the first time I saw Gwar in DC was INSANE! Drank a bunch of Miller and fireball first and have seen them other times at festivals but that was just wild- had to wear all white and was right up front, I was screaming the whole time and swallowed so much of the blood and every single part of me was stained red and blue. Everyone in the crowd was so awesome and just having so much fun! I had a meeting at 7:30am the next day and I remember I was up until 3am scrubbing my arms legs and face with a sponge trying to get the fake blood off me! It was so amazing and I would do it every day if I could
Tough to think of a single favorite, but I guess it’s the show at the Cave in Manassas when Malevolent Creation and Forbidden were no-shows.
Deceased ended up headlining and Horror of Horrors played. My band also played, probably our biggest show (though obviously nobody was there to see us ha!).

GWAR shows are definitely in my top 5, but seeing Russian Circles (at the 930 club!) and being able to headbang on the barrier was unforgettable.

My favorite concert was Decibel Fest 2019 and seeing Enslaved play Frost in its entirety. I shed a manly tear in that pit 🥲
My Favorite metal concert has to have been when I saw Sunn 0))) with Atilla in 2017. Just hours of crushing tone.
Though will always hold a place in my heart for Gwar, as they were my first ever concert back in 2007

only time I’ve ever crowd surfed was at MPP when Gwar played at the back stage before Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson performed at the main stage. This was probably 2015? I can check my receipts. 😜

I managed to get tickets to see Overkill, Anthrax, and Megadeth for a night when I was still living in Puerto Rico. That was a magical night, it was called “Thrash the Island Festival”, April 28, 2016.
