Katatonia and The Ocean ticket give away

Katatonia at the Black Cat

Katatonia is coming all the way from Sweden to play the Black Cat on Wednesday, November 9th, and they’re bringing The Ocean Collective and Cellar Darling with them! Even better, DCHM is giving away a pair of tickets to this very show! All you need to do to enter: is just tell me your favorite band to listen to when you want to get into the Halloween mood. Then on Halloween, Monday October 31st, at 5pm Eastern the winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly when you enter so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If the selected winner hasn’t written me back within 24 hours another winner will be selected. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can purchase tickets here.

This show is going to be the first night of the North American tour and Katatonia has a new album coming out in January titled Sky Void of Stars. Hopefully we’ll get to hear some of these new tunes on the tour (and be sure to check their music embedded video below for one of the new songs). Also along on the tour is the German band The Ocean Collective. Their proggy post-metal sound is a perfect compliment to Katatonia, and you should also check out their video embedded below for a song they did that features Katatonia’s vocalist Jonas Renkse. Cellar Darling is an up and coming Swiss band with progressive leanings and all three of the band’s members are former members of Eluveitie. Anyways, go check out the music videos by all three of these great bands and leave a comment telling me what your favorite band to get you into the Halloween mood is!

The Ocean – Jurassic | Cretaceous (feat. Jonas Renkse)

Cellar Darling – Avalanche

In case you’re out of the loop, Torche just released their fifth studio album, Admission, on July 12th on Relapse Records (listen to it here). Alice in Chains has been pretty quiet about their new album that is coming out soon, they haven’t even released the name of it yet. It will be the band’s first in almost five years though and I’m betting they’ll be playing some new material from this upcoming release on this tour. Their DC date is going to be at the newly opened venue The Anthem in Southwest DC’s redeveloped District Wharf area. The 6,000 person venue is run by IMP, the same company that runs the 9:30 Club and Merriweather Post Pavilion. The openers for this show are Walking Papers, a Seattle based band featuring Duff McKagan of Guns N Roses as well as Jeff Angell of The Missionary Position and Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees. Their second album, WP2, was released in January of this year. Now check out these videos of the bands below and leave a comment telling me what you favorite Alice in Chains song is!

Mayhem is one of the original bands from the infamous second wave of black metal that arose out of Norway in the early 90s. On this tour they’ll be performing their classic 1994 album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in its entirety along with some of their other songs too. Also performing will be Immolation, a death metal band from New York that has managed to keep their sound intense without getting stale over the 30 years of their existence. New York City based black thrashers Black Anvil will open the show. Now check out these videos from the bands performing and let me know your favorite black metal song in the comments!

Mayhem – Freezing Moon (live)

Immolation – Fostering The Divide

Black Anvil – May Her Wrath Be Just

Hatebreed ticket give away

Hatebreed at Baltimore Soundstage

This Sunday, November 26th, metalcore masters Hatebreed are playing the Baltimore Soundstage with local death metal legends Dying Fetus! We’re so excited for this show that we’re giving away a pair of tickets to this show to one of you lucky DCHM readers. To enter: just leave a comment on this post telling me what metal band you’re most thankful for. Maybe they’re your favorite band, maybe they helped you through a rough time or maybe they did something super awesome for their fans or a charity or something. Be sure to enter using an email address you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. Hatebreed formed in the late 90s and released their 8th studio album, The Concrete Confessional, last year. It was their first release on Nuclear Blast Records and it peaked at 25 on the Billboard charts, showing that they’re still hitting hard after all these years. Dying Fetus is bringing the slamming riffs to this show as well. They just released their latest album, Wrong One to Fuck With in June so we’ll finally get to hear some of those sick new tunes live. Code Orange is a hardcore punk band from Pittsburgh who released their third album, Forever, on Relapse Records earlier this year. Opening the show will be the Los Angeles based Twitching Tongues, a band that blends doom metal with hardcore. Be sure to check out these videos from the bands below and leave a comment telling me which metal band you’re the most thankful for!

Hatebreed – Something’s Off

Dying Fetus – Die With Integrity

Code Orange – Forever

Opeth and The Sword ticket give away

Opeth and The Sword at the Fillmore Silver Spring

The legendary Swedish prog metal band Opeth is touring with Texas based doom metal masters The Sword which comes to the Fillmore Silver Spring on Friday, September 30th, 2016! We’re so psyched to see these two great bands together that we’re giving away a pair of tickets to this very show to one of you lucky DCHM readers! These bands are from two very different subgenres of heavy metal so to enter: just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite heavy metal subgenre is. From traditional to funeral doom metal to crabcore to brutal slam sci-fi tech death metal, any metal subgenre is valid as long as it is your favorite! On Tuesday, Sept 27th at 5pm EST the contest will close and I’ll pick a winner at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Live Nation for $35 here.

Opeth have been one of the leading bands in the progressive metal world since they released their debut album, Orchid, back in 1995. The band’s 12th studio album, Sorceress, is being released on the very same day as this show. That means we’ll be some of the first to hear these new songs live, as well as some of the band’s older classics from throughout the years as well. But let’s not forget the opening act on this tour, The Sword. Normally a headliner in their own right, The Sword will be opening shows on this tour with their catchy brand of doom metal. It’s not every day you get to see two great bands from such different subgenres on the same bill so this is not a show to be missed. Check out these videos from the bands below and tell me what your favorite heavy metal subgenre is!

Opeth – The Wilde Flowers

The Sword – Lawless Lands

Opeth – The Grand Conjuration
