When Glenn Danzig left the Misfits in 1983 he immediately formed a new band, Samhain, to continue his music but this time with a more hard rock/metal approach. This Halloween, that’s Friday, October 31st, Danzig brings Samhain to the Howard Theatre in Washington DC! The band gets their name from a Gaelic festival that traditionally starts at sundown on October 31st, meaning this is your chance to actually see Samhain during Samhain, how cool is that? Since Halloween is the most metal holiday of the year, we’re going to be giving away a free pair of tickets to one of you lucky DCHM readers to this very show. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite Halloween costume of all time is. I’m looking for some last minute costume ideas so help me out! At 5pm EST this Wednesday, October 29th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to receive two tickets to the show! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. Please don’t enter if you know you can’t attend, the contest ends just a few days before the show so I don’t have a lot of time to keep picking winners and waiting to hear back. If you can’t wait to see if you win, or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets right now for $42.55 from Ticket Master here.
When Samhain performed at RiotFest in September they played their debut album, Initium, from start to finish. I’m not sure if they plan on doing that for this show as well, but I do know that they’ll have Peter Adams (of Baroness and Valkyrie) on guitar for this show. But Samhain isn’t the only band on this bill, there will also be a set by New Orleans based Goatwhore, a band that always gets the crowd moving. And you will want to make sure you get there early enough to catch the excellent opening act, Midnight. The Ohio based blackened speed metal band is a personal favorite of mine and fans of old school Motörhead and Venom are going to love them. Still not convinced? Then check out these awesome videos by the bands playing and leave a comment telling me what your favorite Halloween costume is.
Samhain – The Howl
Goatwhore – Apocalyptic Havoc
Midnight – Violence On Violence

Dude, you totally have to go as Chewbacca. Chewie!!!!!!
one year I went as Ali G. yellow track suit and all, another one of my favorites was about 4 or 5 years ago, I went as the Illusionist Criss Angel. I wore way too tight clothes, super dark eyeliner and a trench coat. I walked around all evening with a stupid pout, staring into people eyes without saying anything until I asked them if they liked card tricks, Performed card tricks that I never got right the entire night.
Need to see Midnight, I missed them at MDF
There was a guy running around Canton last year with an EPIC Macho Man Randy Savage costume. Impression was spot on and he gave out slim jims. Tried to make it work myself this year but I haven’t been lucky with finding 80’s clothes at the local thrift shops. Did find a super ugly old pair of pink Nikes but they wanted $20 for them so I gave up. Good luck!
I dressed one year with brown gauzes from head to toe and was a freaking mommy! Everyone loved it! I was like 40 pounds lighter though!
I’m keeping it easy this year and just wearing black everything and going as a fascist ;) But my favorite costume would have to be this one that I found on Google Images: http://xaxor.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Easy-DIY-Halloween-costumes1.jpg
Oderus Urungus tribute
A few years ago I wore a red union suit, some really cheesy devil horns and tail, and a plastic pitchfork. I was the least threatening devil ever.
Dude,
You can’t go wrong with a gorilla suit. Yes, beer-drinking can be tricky, but you’ll be the life of the party, guaranteed.

Zombie is always a good go-to. Yeah, they’ve been done to death lately (pun intended), but it’s a classic and easy to throw together.
Favorite Halloween costume of all time is a dinosaur.
Earnest P Worrell , Simple and elegant.
I went as buzz Osborne last year. And by that I mean I wore a Melvin’s shirt after letting my fro grow out.
Group costumes always go over really well. Some friends and I went as the characters from Clue one year, and another year a few of us dressed up as the different phases of an animorph. That one made very little sense to most people but made the folks who got it happy. I think my favorite costume is the Baroness costume I made. Took along time to make everything by hand, but it was worth it. Just wished more people knew who I was. :) Oh and I second the chewbacca costume mentioned below.

My friend and I went as Lydia and Beetlejuice. Tim Burton takes the cake for characters. I’m a big 80s movie fan so many great ideas in that genre.
Gene simmons from kiss!
one uear my wife and I went as Ricky and Lucy from ‘I Love Lucy” it’s funny cuz it’s true.
Darth Vader is always a good one. Maybe Boba Fett in a close second!
I was Paula Dean last year – I drank everything out of a country crock butter tub and said inappropriate shit all night.
I love to dress as a dominatrix, or a leather nymph \,,,/
A bloody tampon. Just need a white outfit. Some white rope and some fake blood.
Talk to Steve to follow his idea… a zombie priest abducted by Lady Evil and taken to Witches’ Valley \m/
The bad Charlie Brown ghost with all the holes in the sheet.
The three-hole punch version of yourself after Jim on the Office. Very easy.
I can’t pick one costume that is my favorite. There are too many good ones. Leather face is always fun. Two of my friends went as a penis and vagina one year. I just really want to see this show. I’m broke, can’t afford tickets, all of my friends are going, and I know Pete. Valkyrie is from Harrisonburg, where I live. Help.
Herbert from ReAnimator or Stuntman Mike from Death Proof
Easy-cheese-man. Superhero with the power of spraycheese. Late in the evening on Halloween, that really is a superpower.
papa from ghost!!!
Crimson Ghost
Buckethead. Go to KFC;buy a bucket of chicken; and put it on your head.
