Metal Night at Atlas Brew Works

What? Metal Night at Atlas Brew Works
When? 7pm to midnight, Friday, July 15th
Where? 2052 West Virginia Ave NE #102, Washington, DC 20002 (map)
More Info: Facebook Event

My buddy Brewer Will has gained employ at another brewery, now he’s working at Atlas Brew Works in Washington DC! We decided we’d take over Atlas on Friday, July 15th, for our next Metal Night event! Come hang out with other metal heads as we blast metal songs in the brewery all night, drink craft beer and, for one night at least, have a place to hang out with other metal heads outside of concerts.

Local band Borracho will be on hand to debut their new full length album and Will has even brewed a special batch of the Borracho beer, Oculus Smoked Brown Ale, just for the occasion. In addition I’ll be giving away tickets to a ton of upcoming metal shows around the area (see the full list at the end of this post). There’s no cover charge and no purchase necessary, all you have to do to enter to win tickets is show up! The event is open to all ages but of course you must be 21 or over to drink. There will be coffee, soda, and water for non-drinkers and DDs as well. The brewery has plenty of free street parking along West Virginia Avenue and it’s less than two miles from both the NoMa/Gallaudet and Rhode Island Avenue metro stations on the red line. If you’ve got any questions or just want to know more then check out the Facebook event page we have created here.

Feel free to send us some requests of songs you want to hear at Metal Night! It can be an old classic, a new favorite, or even your own band! As long as it is metal we’ll play it (ok maybe not super long songs like Sleep’s Dopesmoker but you get the idea). Send your requests to Will via email at Brewmetalwill@gmail.com

Here’s the list of tickets that I’ll be giving away (in pairs) at this event:

Brutality At The Brewery III

Brutality At The Brewery III

Lots of people have been asking me if there’s going to be a DC Heavy Metal holiday party again this year and the answer is YES! It is going to be at the third metal night, dubbed Brutality At The Brewery, to be held at Fairwinds Brewery this Friday, December 11th! I’ll be decked out in my now infamous Cthulhu holiday sweater and giving away tickets to a ton of upcoming metal shows in our area (see the list at the end of this post). Brewer Will has brewed up something special for this event, a black wit ale named Iron Tongue that was brewed in collaboration with the guys in the local metal band Gloom! And as usual we’ll be playing songs all night that you have requested. To make your own song requests just send them to Will on Twitter at @BrewMetalWill or post them on the thread in the Facebook event page here. No bands will be playing this event! We all just hang out with other metal heads, drink some crazy good local craft beers, win prizes and listen to metal all night!

Things get started at 7pm and there’s no entry fee. Fairwinds Brewery is located just off of I-95 where it intersects with the Fairfax County Parkway. It’s on the edge of Lorton and Springfield and driving time is about the same as going to Jaxx/Empire was for most people. The address is 7000 Newington Rd, Lorton, VA 22079 (map). More info can be found on the Facebook event page we have set up right here! I can’t wait to see everyone on Friday! Now check out this epic list of tickets we’re giving away at the event!

Brutality At The Brewery II

I’m teaming up with Brewer Will over at Fair Winds Brewery again for another Brutality At The Brewery metal night event this Saturday, August 1st from 7pm to midnight! It’s free to get in and we’ll be playing metal tunes all night, drinking delicious craft beer and hanging out with metal heads as we take over the tasting room. There’s a new set up this time so it will be much louder than the first Brutality At The Brewery was! The guys in Yesterday’s Saints will be on hand as we tap the Yesterday’s Saint’s black kolsh beer, Seas Of Annihilation, brewed specially for this event! It will be available until it runs out so don’t drag your feet getting there.

Fair Winds Brewing is located just off I-95 where it intersects with the Fairfax County Parkway on the border of Springfield and Lorton. The address is: 7000 Newington Rd, Lorton, VA 22079 (Google Map here).

You can RSVP on the Facebook event page here.

And did I mention that I’ll be there giving out tons of prizes, including concert tickets to many upcoming metal shows in our area. We’ve got so many prizes that it’s going to be hard NOT to win something if you show up! You can see the list below (for most of them we’ll be picking 2 winners that will each get their own pair of tickets):

Dying Fetus at the Pinch on 8/6

Summer Slaughter (Arch Enemy headlines) at Rams Head Live on 8/13

We’ll also be giving away a 24″ x 36″ poster for the beer’s artwork, seen below.

Brutality At The Brewery

Brutality At The Brewery

I’m teaming up again with Brewer Will to do another metal night, this time dubbed Brutality At The Brewery, on Friday, May 8th, 2015! We used to hold metal nights at Port City but Will is now working for Fair Winds Brewing in Lorton, Virginia and we’d like to continue the tradition at his new nautical themed brewery of employ. The place is right off I-95 at the Fairfax County Parkway exit and takes about the same time to reach as Empire/Jaxx does since you don’t have to drive down Old Keene Mill with all the stoplights. And the tasting room where we’ll be holding this event is brand new and really nice! We’ll be playing metal tunes all night (as usual you can send in requests or even your own band’s music) and giving away prizes like concert tickets and band merch. What more could you want? Well how about a sneak preview of the new King Giant album Black Ocean Waves for starters! That’s right, you’ll be able to hear the new King Giant album first at our Brutality At The Brewery event! Also, since Empire is closing earlier that same week there will be a special discount for all of their employees that have suddenly lost their jobs.

You can get more information on the Facebook event page here and you can send your song requests to Will by posting them there or sending them to him via Twitter at @BrewMetalWill. So come hang out with us and a bunch of the area’s metal heads as we talk metal, drink some great beers and listen to heavy metal all night, and who knows, you may win something too!

Metal Night V at the Pinch

Metal Night V

Hopefully a bunch of you already know about the next metal night I’m doing with the awesome brewers over at Port City Brewery (Facebook event page here). It’s this Saturday, December 14th and we’ll be playing metal tunes all night as usual but this time we’re changing things up a bit and moving it to the Pinch in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington DC (address and map here). There’s a few reasons for this change of venue, the main one is that we can now run much later than the 9pm curfew we had at the actual brewery in Alexandria (that was due to parking restrictions). Another reason is by moving it into the city it’s now Metro accessible, that means you can get there and leave from the Columbia Heights Metro Station which is just 1/2 mile south of the Pinch on the same street. There’s also plenty of street parking around the venue and don’t worry, Columbia Heights is a really nice neighborhood so you don’t have to worry about your car. The venue is a full service bar and restaurant so you can get food there and let me tell you it’s great food! I highly recommend the waffle fries with duck and BBQ sauce. In addition to all of this the venue also has a small stage downstairs and the guys in Borracho are going to play a special set for us this evening. This isn’t really a concert though, there’s no other bands playing, but we thought it would be cool since Port City has brewed a small batch of the Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale just for this event! There will be many of your favorite Port City beers available all night too. In addition to all of that I’ll be there giving away prizes throughout the night, including concert tickets to the following upcoming metal shows: Amon Amarth/Enslaved, Children Of Bodom/Death Angel, Carcass/The Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest Hour/Pig Destroyer, Morbid Saint, Iced Earth, Between The Buried And Me/Deafheaven, Metal Church, Chimaira, Mobile Deathcamp and more! The doors open at 6pm and the event runs all night but the ticket give aways will be at intervals between 8pm and midnight, and Borracho will play during that time as well.

And as usual we’ll be playing a metal set list all night (well, except when Borracho is playing) and Will wants your song requests! Send him your favorite metal songs of 2013, favorite local bands, or just your favorite metal songs in general by emailing him at will@portcitybrewing.com or send them to him via Twitter at @PCBCBrewMetal. Don’t wait til the day of cause he’ll be busy setting things up and he might not have time to get to it before everything starts.

So to summarize, send in your metal song requests and show up at the Pinch this Saturday any time from 6pm til last call (which is 2:30am in DC on Fridays and Saturdays). Enter to win some tickets and enjoy some great beers with other metal heads breaking only for a free show by Borracho. What’s not to love? Now to get you in the mood, check out this killer Borracho video.

Metal Night III at Port City Brewery

Metal Night III at Port City Brewery

This Sunday, April 7th, 2013, I’ll be co-hosting the third metal night at Port City Brewery in Alexandria from 5 to 9pm! I’ve got over 15 tickets to give away at Metal Night III to see upcoming shows by Anthrax, Death, Suffocation, Ghost and Mayhem Fest! And while there won’t be any bands playing live there will be metal played throughout the brewery all during the event. In fact, you can send in your own song requests ahead of time to get them added to the set list by emailing Port City brewer and metal head Will at Will@PortCityBrewing.com Requests can be any sub-genre of metal, even the extreme ones are ok. If you’ve got a classic metal favorite, some weird underground metal band’s song you never thought you’d hear in public or just want to promote your own local metal band, then send in your request to hear it at Metal Night!

And did I mention the beer? Port City makes some damn fine beer and in their tasting room. They sell it by the glass (or growler if you want to take it home) for cheaper than most bars sell their crappy mass produced beer for (more on that here in my previous post about beer and metal). You can even get a “flight” of smaller glasses to sample several of the beers to help you figure out what you like. Since the event ends at 9pm you can still get home before it gets too late, we gotta work Mondays too. There isn’t a kitchen at Port City Brewery but there will be a food truck on site. Also, the local power metal band A Sound Of Thunder will be there to raise money for the local fests Flight Of The Valkyries and Metal Quest so keep an eye out for them as well.

Admission is free to Metal Night and I encourage you to share this post or the Facebook event page (here) with your metal head friends. You don’t have to be 21 to attend but you must be 21 to drink. Designated drivers of all legal driving ages are welcome! If you’ve never been to Port City Brewing Company before, the address is 3950 Wheeler Ave, Alexandria, VA 22304 (map).

It will be a great night of sampling some excellent craft beer while listening to some killer metal tunes with friends new and old. Now think up which songs you want to hear at Metal Night III and get ready to win some prizes!
