Inter Arma ticket give away

Inter Arma at DC9

Inter Arma is one of the best bands to come out of that awesome Richmond metal scene. On Tuesday, July 5th they’re kicking off their new tour with a show at DC9 and we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show to one of you lucky DCHM readers! To enter leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite metal album of the summer is (so far). It can be a brand new release or an old favorite you’ve been playing more for whatever reason. At 5pm EST this Friday, June 17th, 2016, the contest will close and I’ll pick a winner at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly for $12 here.

Inter Arma is hard to place into a genre, I generally tell people they sound kind of like if Neurosis was super pissed off. They always put on an intense live show but this should be a special one. Inter Arma’s new album, Paradise Gallows, is being released by Relapse Records on July 8th and since this is the first date on their tour supporting the album, we’ll be among the first to hear some of these new tunes, and in a live setting no less! Support on this tour is provided by Withered, a black/death band from Atlanta, Georgia. They’ve also got a new album, Grief Relic, that was just released on Season Of Mist. Now check out these videos of the bands below (including a sick new Inter Arma track!) and let me know what your favorite metal album of the summer is!

Something new planned on DCHM

I’m always looking for ways to use new forms of social media on DCHeavyMetal.com and this weekend I’ll be doing my first live streaming video interview on Periscope, a free video streaming app for both iOS and Android. On Saturday, May 13th (that’s tomorrow!) some time around 7:30 or 8pm I’ll be at DC Brau with Richard Johnson of Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Drugs Of Faith talking about the upcoming ANb show at the Black Cat on May 21st, beer, music and anything else that comes to mind. I’ll also have a free pair of tickets to give to the person with the best question for Richard!

Periscope is owned by Twitter so if you have a Twitter account you’ve already got a Periscope account. The cool thing about Periscope is that it will let people watching ask their own questions that we can answer in real time. And on Saturday I’ll have a pair of tickets to give away to whoever has the best question for Richard. All you need to watch or join in is a smart phone (with the Periscope app) or a computer with a browser and the link to my account conveniently posted right here: www.periscope.tv/metalchris

If you can’t watch live don’t worry, I plan on saving the stream and posting it to YouTube and on the main site for people to watch later. If this goes well then I hope to do more interviews with metal musicians at local breweries and bars around town in the future. I hope you enjoy the first in a series of interviews I’d like to call “Have A Beer With…” so join us Saturday evening and have a beer with Richard Johnson of Agoraphobic Nosebleed!

Megadeth ticket give away

Megadeth at the Fillmore Silver Spring

Another week in April means another ticket give away on DCHM! This week we’re giving away tickets to see the one and only Megadeth at the Fillmore Silver Spring on Thursday, May 5th! It’s going to be a Cinco De Mayo party like no other so we are giving away a free pair of tickets to one of you lucky DCHM readers to this very show. To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite Megadeth song. The contest will close this Friday, April 29th, 2016 and I’ll pick a winner at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Live Nation for $45 here.

Megadeth needs no introduction, the legendary band has been led by Dave Mustaine since his departure from Metallica in the early 80’s and they’ve been cranking out thrash metal with legendary hooks and crazy solos ever since. The band has just released their 15th studio album, titled Dystopia, and this will be the first time they play any of those new songs in our area. Additionally, this show will be Megadeth’s first show in our area with Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler behind the kit. The opener for this show is the up and coming Wilson, a hard rock band from Detroit. Be sure to check out these videos below and leave a comment telling me what your favorite Megadeth song is!

Generation Axe ticket give away

Generation Axe at the Warner Theatre

Generation Axe is a truly unique band with a total of five of the world’s best guitarists and they’re playing at the Warner Theatre in Washington DC this Sunday, April 24th! Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi will perform in different combinations culminating with them all on stage playing together! There has never been a concert like this before and one of you lucky DCHM readers is going to get to go to this very concert for free! To enter: just leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite guitarist of all time! At 5pm EST on Friday, April 22nd, 2016, the contest will end I’ll pick a winner at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you know you can’t go please don’t enter as there isn’t a lot of time between the end of the contest and the show and contacting another winner in time will be difficult. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Live Nation for $43 – $83 (depending on section) here.

Instead of each of these incredible guitarists performing solo sets Generation Axe will perform together in different combinations letting us witness some very interesting stylistic combinations. They’ll play some songs from each member’s back catalog as well as some covers and even some new material that was written just for this tour. I’m not sure these guys will all have the time in their schedule to do a tour like this together again so you really don’t want to miss this show. It will also be something of a homecoming for Tosin Abasi, the Animals As Leaders guitarist that grew up in the Maryland suburbs of DC. Now tell me who your favorite guitarist is (and it better not be Nick Jonas!) and check out these videos of Generation Axe in action below.

Since we want to get as many of you viking metal fans out to this one as possible we’ll be giving away a free pair of tickets to this very show! Amon Amarth are a Swedish band know for their brutal yet catchy death metal songs about viking history and lore. They always put on a highly entertaining show and with their latest album, Jomsviking, just released last month we’ll be getting to hear some new songs too! Also on board are fellow Swedes Entombed A.D. who are basically the remnants of Entombed but had to add the A.D. since there’s a legal dispute over the name. Regardless they’re still going to bring that death n’ roll they’re so famous for. The opener is Exmortus, a melodic death/thrash band from California that’s up and coming right now. Be sure to check out these videos of all three bands below and then leave a comment telling me who your favorite band from Sweden is!

Sleep is known for their incredible ability to summon a very Black Sabbath vibe through some of the fuzziest stoner riffs out there! Guitarist Matt Pike spends most of his time in High On Fire these days and this Sleep “tour” only includes 7 North American dates, so getting to see Sleep in DC is a rare thing indeed, something that hasn’t happened in a decade. The the opener for this show is a perfect choice! Richmond based Windhand play some of the catchiest slow riffs in the modern doom metal world which blend perfectly with vocalist Dorthia Cottrell’s haunting voice. Now check out these videos of the bands below while you tell me in the comments what your favorite stoner band is!

Sleep – Dragonaut
