Epica ticket give away

Epica at the Howard Theatre

The Dutch symphonic power metal band Epica will be playing the Howard Theatre in Washington DC on Tuesday, October 23rd and you can win a free pair of tickets to this show here on DCHeavyMetal.com! All you have to do to enter is give me a good reason why you want to go to this show by leaving a comment at the end of this post and at 5pm EST on Friday, October 19th I’ll pick one winner at random (using Random.org) from all the valid entries to win the tickets to this killer show. Be sure to enter with a valid email address you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. If I don’t hear from you in 24 hours then I’ll pick another winner to get the tickets. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any email lists or anything like that, I hate spam too. If you enter more than once then all of your entries will be disqualified. If you simply can’t wait to see if you win the contest you can get tickets from Ticket Master here for $23.

Don’t let redhead Simone Simons’ good looks fool you, she’s not just up there to look pretty. She can really sing and Requiem For The Indifferent, their album released earlier this year, is definite proof. I’ve posted their latest music video below so you can listen for yourself. This will be the area’s first chance to hear any of Epica’s new material live and I’m sure they’ll play some older classics as well. There are several other bands on this tour as well including Alestorm, a pirate themed metal band from Scotland. Insomnium is a melodic death metal band from Finland with some very heavy riffs. System Divide is a band with members from Europe, the Middle East, and various parts of the US including their guitarist, Steve Miller, who area metal heads will recognize as the guitarist for local death metal band Loculus. The opening act is Blackguard, an up and coming epic metal band from Montreal, Canada. That’s a hell of a line up coming to the Howard Theatre, a new venue with great sound in DC that is just around the corner from the 9:30 Club (and just as easy to get to). So check out the songs below, one by each band playing, and tell me why you want to be at this concert!

Torche, LTW and DOC ticket give away

Ok check this out, Torche, the ridiculously great live band from Miami is coming back to the Rock & Roll Hotel on Wednesday, October 10th to make your head explode with excitement! Ok, maybe not explode but I’ll be damned if they aren’t going to try. This wouldn’t be DCHeavyMetal.com if I didn’t want to see some of you out at this show so starting now you can leave a comment on this post telling me why you think this show will be awesome! It can be because of a song you like, the aluminum necked guitars they use, or even because, as the show’s poster illustrates, Torche is the shit! One winner will be selected at 5pm EST on Tuesday, October 9th to win a free pair of tickets to this show. Be sure to use an email address you check regularly so I can contact you when you win. Even if you don’t win I won’t add you to any spam lists or anything so there’s no strings attached. Don’t enter more than once or all of your entries will be disqualified, however you are allowed to have a friend also enter and you both agree to go with each other if one of you wins. Please don’t enter if you can’t make it out on a Wednesday night, I want the winner to be able to actually go (as if there was something more awesome to be doing on a Wednesday night). If you simply can’t wait to see if you win you can get tickets from Ticket Alternative for $12 here.

But wait, there’s more! Not only is Torche playing but two of the best local grind acts are as well. WTF are grind bands doing playing with Torche you might ask? They’re simply getting your brain prepared to handle Torche so that your head doesn’t actually explode! Because of this fact you’ll want to get to the show early (first band starts at 8pm) to be sure you can see both the Disciples Of Christ (D.O.C. for short) and LTW (which stands for Lions, Tigers and Whales). Despite the name, DOC isn’t some group of churchies. The brutalicious band features the drummer from Magrudergrind, Chris Moore, behind the kit and LTW is well, just a nightmare mind fuck to see live really. Add to all this the fact that Torche is coming to DC for the first time since releasing their new album, Harmonicraft, back in April and this concert will be the area’s first chance to hear these kick ass new tunes live. Hell, even former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee likes Torche (proof here) and that guy is, well, I’ll keep the politics off of this site… Still not convinced, then check out these videos by Torche and enter below!

Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any email lists or anything like that, I hate spam too. If you enter more than once then all of your entries will be disqualified. And if you cannot make it to the show please don’t enter because I want people who can actually attend to get the tickets! If you simply can’t wait to find out if you have won or not, or the contest is already over, you can buy tickets to the show for $28.50 from Live Nation here.

Down is a New Orleans based metal band that is often called a super group since it is made up of members of Corrosion Of Conformity, Eyehategod, Crowbar and Pantera. Unlike most bands to get the super group label Down actually kicks ass. They just released a new record titled The Purple EP and you can bet you’ll get hear some of those sweet new tunes live at this show as well as several of their classics. But let’s not forget the other bands who will be playing this show as well, most notably the doom metal legends Pentagram. They’re only playing two shows with Down on this tour but we’re lucky enough to get one of them in our area. Also playing will be the Texas based thrash metal band Warbeast. They’ll be shredding your face off in a good way to really get things going. The opening act will be the bluesy throwback band Mount Carmel from Ohio. Down doesn’t tour very often so you’d be crazy to miss this show. What better way is there to see it than for free? So listen to these tunes by the bands playing, enter the contest below and start getting psyched for a killer metal show!

Morbid Angel ticket give away

Death metal legends Morbid Angel are finally coming back to Washington DC and and you can win a free pair of tickets to the show on Monday, September 24th, 2012 at the Howard Theatre. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment at the end of this post Morbid Angel at the Howard Theatretelling me which metal band you’d like to see come to the Howard Theatre next! On Friday, September 21st at 5pm EST I’ll pick a winner at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to get the free pair of tickets to the show. If you simply can’t wait to see if you win the contest you can get tickets from The Vault here for $25 (or you can get them from Ticket Master here but they have higher service fees).

Morbid Angel headlined day three of Maryland Deathfest back in May and they dispelled any notion of the band going soft following their poorly received release of Illud Divinum Insanus in 2011. They put on a killer show playing tons of their classic hits however they didn’t do a full tour. If you missed them at MDF (or even if you were there but want to see them again) then this is your chance to see one of the true legends of American death metal live and at a venue with a great sound system no less. As if that wasn’t good enough reason to go you will also get to see Swedish black metal band Dark Funeral provide direct support on this tour. It will be their first US tour with their new vocalist Nachtgarm and I’ve got to admit I can’t wait to see how he does fronting Dark Funeral. There is also support on this tour from Grave, an old school Swedish death metal band from the days when “Swedish Death Metal” referred to bands like Entombed, Unleashed, Hypocrisy and Dismember. The opening band for this tour is VadimVon, an up and coming death metal band from South Carolina. All this at the Howard Theatre, a new venue in DC that is just around the corner from the 9:30 Club (and just as easy to get to). Bottom line: this show is going to kick serious ass! So listen to these tunes by the bands playing, enter the contest in the comments and I’ll see you at the show!

Pallbearer ticket give away

If you like your doom metal with an extra dose of heavy and a heaping Pallbearer at the Rock & Roll Hotelside of gloom then you don’t want to miss Pallbearer coming to the Rock & Roll Hotel on Wednesday, September 12th, 2012. DCHeavyMetal.com is giving away a free pair of tickets to one lucky winner to catch this must see show and all you’ve got to do to enter is leave a comment at the end of this post telling me which metal band you’d like to see come to the Rock & Roll Hotel next! On Monday, September 10th at 5pm EST I’ll pick a winner at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to get the free pair of tickets to the show! Be sure to enter with a valid email address you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. If I don’t hear from you in 24 hours then I’ll pick another winner to get the tickets. Don’t worry, I wont add you to any email lists or anything like that, I hate spam too. If you enter more than once then all your entries will be disqualified. If you simply can’t wait to see if you win the contest you can get tickets from Ticket Alternative here for $12.

Pallbearer’s debut album, Sorrow And Extinction, was released in February and has been making waves in the world of doom metal, and for Pallbearer Live album cover artgood reason! The Arkansas based band uses clean vocals on top of crushingly heavy riffs that will have you feeling the weight of that casket when you hear them play live. As an extra bonus, everyone in attendance can pick up a free copy of Pallbearer Live on 10″ vinyl provided by Scion A/V at the merch booth. The opening act on the Paths To Oblivion Tour is Royal Thunder, an Atlanta, Georgia based rock band. Samothrace was supposed to be on this tour but had to drop due to an “immediate illness in the family of a band member” according to this post. For this show their spot on the bill has been taken by Asthma Castle, a Baltimore based band that should fit perfectly with the two touring bands. Now crank up the song below, Devoid Of Redemption, while you enter the contest below. Good luck!

Static-X Ticket Give Away

At 5pm EST on Tuesday the 31st of July a winner will be picked at random (using Random.org) from all of the valid entries. Make sure you enter in a valid email address you check regularly when you submit your comment so I can contact you if you win, though it doesn’t need to be in the comment itself. If you don’t want to wait to see if you win or this contest is already over when you read it, you can get tickets from Live Nation here for $30 (after fees).

Statix-X at the Fillmore Silver Spring

Static-X formed in LA in the mid-90’s and quickly became one of the biggest industrial metal bands in the world. They haven’t put out an album since 2009’s Cult Of Static, however the band’s main man, Wayne Static, did put out a solo album last year named Pighammer. Maybe they’ll mix in some material from that or if we’re really lucky a brand new Static-X song or two. Direct support on the tour is provided by Prong who started snapping fingers and necks in New York City in the late 80’s as a thrash band. Over the years they began adding more industrial elements to their sound which means they should be a great support act on this tour. The opening acts Davey Suicide and 9 Electric are both Hollywood based industrial bands. They’re up and comers in the industrial metal scene and give a good glimpse of what the bands influenced by the likes of Static-X will sound like moving forward. In short be sure to get there early so you can check out some rising talent.

Still having trouble deciding which band you want to see most? Check out these music videos, one by each band, to give them all a listen!
