Earth ticket give away

Earth at the Rock & Roll Hotel

Earth, the originators of drone, are coming to the Rock & Roll Hotel this Sunday, September 21st and since the band is a must see we’re giving away a pair of tickets to catch them at this very show! Earth isn’t really super intense so to enter leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite metal (or metal-ish) song/album to chill out to is. Not everything has to be brutal right? At 5pm EST this Friday, September 19th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to receive two tickets to the show! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. Please don’t enter if you know you can’t attend, the contest ends just 2 days before the show so I don’t have time to keep picking winners and waiting to hear back. If you can’t wait to see if you win, or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets right now for $14 from Ticket Fly here.

Earth is from Seattle, Washington and they play a unique style of instrumental drone that experiments with various instruments and sounds but is always very sloooow. As a bit of extra trivia, the band’s main man, Dylan Carlson, was a noted close friend of Kurt Cobain. Apparently they were room mates at one point and Carlson even gave Cobain the shotgun he would later famously kill himself with as a gift. Note that Carlson is prone to seizures so all flash photography is banned at this show, even from your phone. If you do use a flash they will stop the show and you’ll be kicked out. It’s ok though, Earth shows are an experience and the loss of random flashes going off during their set is not a bad thing. The opening act on this tour is King Dude, who you may remember opening for Ghost at the Fillmore back in May. King Dude is also from Seattle but they’ve got a bit more of a rocking attitude and sound. Be sure to check out these awesome songs by Earth and King Dude below as you tell me what metal you like chilling out to the most in the comments below.

Earth – Torn By The Fox Of The Crescent Moon

Earth – Rise To Glory

King Dude – Fear Is All You Know

Deafheaven ticket give away

Deafheaven at the Rock & Roll Hotel

One of 2013’s hit albums in the world of metal was Sunbather by Deafheaven. In 2012 Pallbearer‘s debut album Sorrow & Extinction was a hit as well. On Tuesday, June 10th these two bands will both be playing at the Rock & Roll Hotel! We’re so excited at DCHM that we’re giving away a free pair of tickets to this very show to one of you lucky readers. To enter leave a comment on this post mentioning one of your favorite metal albums of 2014. At 5pm EST this Friday, June 6th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to receive two tickets to the show! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner within 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win, or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly right now for $15 here.

San Francisco’s Deafheaven took the frostbitten grimness normally associated with black metal and turned it completely around with their album Sunbather by conjuring images of summer heatwaves, blinding sunlight and burnt skin. Their atmospheric black metal is almost hypnotic and they manage to take the listener on quite the journey in each song. Pallbearer is a doom metal band from Arkansas that has managed to find a perfect balance between ultra heavy riffs and catchy songwriting. Their clean singing vocal style adds a layer of depth to their slow, down tuned songs and since they have a new album due out soon we may be lucky enough to hear some of their new material at this show too. Also on this bill will be the opener Wreck And Reference, a California based drone/ambient band. Be sure to check out a song by each band on the bill below and let me know what your favorite albums in 2014 so far are.

Deafheaven – Dream House

Pallbearer – Devoid Of Redemption

Wreck And Reference – Absurdities And Echoes

The Sword ticket give away

The Sword at the Rock & Roll Hotel

The Sword is the biggest and best doom metal band from Austin, Texas and they’re coming to DC on Friday, February 21st at the Rock & Roll Hotel on H Street. DCHM is pretty excited about the show and so we’re giving away a pair of tickets to see this very show! To enter: just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite beer named for a band is. Maybe it’s the Iron Maiden beer, the Clutch Dark Sour Ale or even The Sword’s own Winter’s Wolves beer (more on that one below). You can enter with a beer even if you haven’t had it, maybe it’s your favorite just cause it has the best label. At 5pm EST this Friday, February 14th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to receive two tickets to the show! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win, or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly right now for $22 here, they’ll be $25 the day of the show if they aren’t sold out.

The Sword burst onto the metal scene in 2006 but they play an old school style of doom with a stoner edge full of fat riffs and catchy hooks. This show is sponsored by DC Brau as well as Baltimore’s Oliver Ales and both will have special beers at this show. DC Brau will be debuting their new double IPA Solar Abyss (which is about 10%!) and Baltimore’s Oliver Ales will have their The Sword: Winter’s Wolves dark ale on draft as well. To make things even better both beers will have big discounts on price for the show. Drinking a The Sword: Winter’s Wolves while The Sword plays their song Winter’s Wolves live in front of you can definitely happen at this show! Let’s not forget about the other bands though, Big Business is a Seattle based sludge band featuring two members of The Melvins. This isn’t just some Melvins spin off though, they’re pretty damn good (and have a great sense of humor as well). The opening act is O’Brother from Atlanta, a heavy rock band that should be a perfect start to this show. Now get to thinking of which metal beers I should try you choose to enter with while listening to these killer tunes below by the bands playing.

The Sword – The Veil Of Isis

The Sword – Winter’s Wolves

Big Business – Grounds For Divorce

O’Brother – Lo

Russian Circles ticket give away

Russian Circles at the R&R Hotel

The excellent instrumental band Russian Circles is coming to the Rock And Roll Hotel on Tuesday, February 18th and we’re really excited about this show here at DCHM. So excited that we’ll be giving away not one but two pairs of tickets to this show! To enter: just leave a comment on this post telling me who your favorite instrumental band is. Maybe it’s Pelican, Animals As Leaders, Blotted Science, Karma To Burn or another band entirely. At 5pm EST this Friday, January 17th, two winners will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries and each winner will receive two tickets to the show! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly right now for $16.50 here.

Russian Circles gave us the moody album Memorial in late October and this will be their first area appearance since its release. That’s not all to look forward to at this show though, there’s also going to be support from KEN mode, a sick Canadian hardcore/noise band. The opening act is a personal favorite of mine, Richmond’s Inter Arma. These guys released an incredible album on Relapse in 2013, titled Sky Burial, and their live shows are even better. Get there early to see these guys, you’ll be glad you did! Now give a listen to some of my favorite songs by all three bands below and leave a comment telling me your favorite instrumental band!

Russian Circles – Geneva

Russian Circles – Burial

KEN mode – Extending Common Courtesy Throughout The Evening

Inter Arma – ‘sblood

High On Fire Ticket Give Away

High On Fire

High On Fire headlines a killer line up at the Rock & Roll Hotel on Tuesday, November 12th and because DCHeavyMetal.com loves getting people out to great shows like this one we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show! To enter just tell me which band playing the show you want to see most, and why, by leaving a comment on this very post. At 5pm EST this Friday, November 8th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly for $20 here. Now a bit more info on the bands.

Oakland’s High On Fire was started by guitarist Matt Pike shortly after the break up of his previous band, the legendary doom band Sleep. Don’t think High On Fire is all doom and gloom though, their sound is more high energy with catchy sludge riffs. Also on tour is Kvelertak, a favorite band of mine that blurs the lines between punk, black metal and rock and roll. Plus they put on one of the wildest shows you’ll ever see. Kvelertak is from Norway and their song lyrics are all in their native tongue but it doesn’t matter if you know what they’re saying or not because they bring killer riff after killer riff! Music is the universal language after all. Opening up this leg of the tour will be the Doomriders. This Boston based band is led by Nate Newton (also of Converge and Old Man Gloom) and they really shred. You may be noticing something tying all these bands together: they all play some sweet riffage! This show is going to be crazy and there is literally nowhere else better to be on a cold Tuesday in November. Now check out these awesome tunes by the bands below and let me know which one you’re most excited to see at this show.

Deafheaven ticket give away

Deafheaven

San Francisco based atmospheric black metal band Deafheaven is touring this summer and they’ll be at the Rock And Roll Hotel this Sunday, June 30th and DCHeavyMetal.com is giving away a free pair of tickets to a lucky one of you readers. To enter leave a comment on this post telling me who your favorite black metal band from the US is. At 5pm EST this Friday, June 28th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If you can’t wait to see if you win then you can get tickets from Ticket Alternative right now for $12 here.

Deafheaven plays a rather hypnotic style of black metal that fans of Alcest, Wolves In The Throne Room and Krallice will enjoy, though they’ve put their own California style take on the sound. Their new album, Sunbather, takes the standard frozen wintery darkness commonly associated with black metal and does a full 180 with its imagery of summer heat, blinding sunlight and sunburnt skin. Give the album’s title track a listen on the YouTube video below. The song is 10 minutes long but it goes to a lot of different places in that time and is definitely worth the full listen. Also on this tour is Marriages. They’re based out of LA and not really a metal band but two of the members, Greg Burns and Emma Ruth Rundle, are both from Red Sparowes. The opener is a electonic/doom band from Baltimore named Curse. I’ve posted a song by each band below so give them a listen and tell me who your favorite USBM band is!

Torche ticket give away

Torche

Miami Florida’s Torche is bringing their thunder pop to the Rock And Roll Hotel on Saturday, June 15th and DCHeavyMetal.com is giving away a free pair of tickets to a lucky one of you readers. To enter just tell me which song you’d like to hear them play the most in a comment on this post. If you need help then just check out their discography on Metal Archives (here). At 5pm this Friday, June 7th, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If you can’t wait to see if you win then you can get tickets from Ticket Alternative right now for $14 here.

Torche plays a sort of stoner metal and rock hyrbid that is full of great riffs, and they are really fun to watch live. This show should be a lot of fun! They’re playing with Canadian hardcore band KEN mode as well as the excellent Ohio based band Lo-Pan. Hell, even if you don’t win you should come out to this show, it’s going to be a lot of fun on a summer Saturday night! Now give a listen to these videos below by each of the bands playing and decide which Torche song you want to pick to enter!
