Valentine’s Day Double Give Away

Roots vs DevilDriver

Valentine’s Day might not be the most brutal of holidays, not until now that is! We’re doing a special 48 hour contest where you can win a pair of tickets to your choice of two sick upcoming metal shows at the Baltimore Soundstage (you can even enter for to win tickets to both if you want, but you can’t win both prizes). Option one is Max & Iggor Cavalera‘s Return to Roots this Sunday, February 19th along with Immolation, Full Of Hell, Withered, Immortal Bird and Cemetery Piss. Your second option is to see DevilDriver the following night, Monday, February 20th along with Death Angel, Winds Of Plague, The Agonist and Azreal. To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me which concert you would like to win a free pair of tickets to (or answer “Both” if you want to enter for both shows). At 5pm EST on Thursday, February 16th two different winners will be chosen at random (using Random.org), and each will receive a pair of tickets to a show they requested. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. Multiple entries from the same person, even if you’re using different email addresses, will be disqualified. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win, you need a last minute Valentine’s Day gift, or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly for Max & Iggor for $26.40 (here and for DevilDriver for $23 here.

Brotherly love brings us the Cavalera brothers performing the classic Sepultura album Roots in its entirety. Their tour with the always brutal NYDM band Immolation and the Maryland based Full Of Hell is combining for this special show with black metal band Withered‘s tour with the ferocious Immortal Bird and Baltimore’s Cemetery Piss. It’s a lot of bands on the bill and it sure beats both tours being at different Baltimore venues on the same night. DevilDriver is bringing their brand of hardcore laced heavy metal back on the road, this time with Bay Area thrash legends Death Angel. Winds Of Plague and Azreal round out the touring bill and locals Emerge A Tyrant are the opening support. Now check out the videos by some of the bands on these shows below and tell me which of these sick concerts you want to win tickets to!

Sepultura – Roots Bloody Roots

DevilDriver – Trust No One

Immolation – A Glorious Epoch

Death Angel – Hatred United / United Hate

Pig Destroyer ticket give away

Pig Destroyer at the Rock & Roll Hotel

Pig Destroyer is playing the Rock & Roll Hotel this Saturday, December 3rd with Deceased! That’s a couple of pretty big bands in a pretty small room and you know it’s going to be a wild night. Since we love giving stuff away at DCHeavyMetal.com and since today is Giving Tuesday, we’re going to give one of you lucky readers a free pair of tickets to this show. But wait, there’s more! The winner will also get a copy of the show poster (seen above) by artist Craig Horky that is signed by all of the members of Pig Destroyer. To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite metal album of 2016 has been. At 5pm EST this Thursday, December 1st, a winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) from all valid entries to win the tickets and signed poster. Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If I haven’t heard back from the winner in 24 hours another winner will be chosen at random. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can get tickets from Ticket Fly for $18 here.

Pig Destroyer is a twisted grind band from the DMV area and they’re known for putting on intense shows! This show at the Rock & Roll Hotel is sure to be a blast in front of their home town crowd. And let’s not forget Deceased, one of the area’s oldest underground metal bands. They have been cranking out their metal of death with a strong focus on horror movies since the mid-80s. Also on the bill is “The Grindfather” Richard Johnson’s band Drugs Of Faith. When he isn’t screaming into the mic for Agoraphobic Nosebleed he leads DoF with their pioneering of the Grind ‘n Roll style. The opener is Cemetery Piss, a Baltimore based band that lies somewhere between crust, black metal and sludge. This is one hell of a line up that is much more than your average “locals” show! Now check out these awesome videos of the bands playing below and leave a comment telling me what your favorite metal album of 2016 has been!

Pig Destroyer – The Diplomat

Deceased – It’s Alive

Drugs Of Faith – Insanity

Cemetery Piss – Rest In Piss

Metal Show Of The Week: Obliteration

Who? Obliteration
When? Thursday, March 20th
Where? Metro Gallery (map) in Baltimore
How much? $14 cash at the door or $14.50 from Mission Tix

This week’s pick for Metal Show Of The Week goes to a gig up in Baltimore but if you’re down in DC or NoVA it’s definitely worth driving up for, even on a week night, and I’ll explain why. The headliner is a death metal band from Norway called Obliteration. They’re playing a string of shows while they’re in the US for SXSW and the Metro Gallery in Baltimore is going to be their only stop in our area. The chance to catch these guys live in the US is pretty rare, you might never get to see them on this side of the ocean ever again. And while Obliteration is from Norway they’re straight up death metal, not black metal, and not the breakdown laden slam-core style of death metal that has become so popular of late. No, Obliteration has an old school sound that isn’t far off from early recordings by bands like Darkthrone and Sepultura. Their raw, aggressive sound is surprisingly clean on their third album, Black Death Horizon, which was released by Relapse Records late last year. You can stream the entire album on Bandcamp here or just scroll down to the end of this post to check out the second track, “Goat Skull Crown.”

There’s more than just a rare chance to see a killer Norwegian death metal band in their prime at this show though. Also playing will be Northless, a heavy sludge band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin that has a dark, foreboding sound not far off from bands like Rwake and Czar. They aren’t on tour with Obliteration, we’re just lucky that they’re both playing Baltimore the same night and their shows were combined. And let’s not forget the killer locals on this show including DC’s Ilsa, a crusty death/doom band that is heavy as fuck and always leaves the audience floored by the end of their sets. Baltimore’s own Cemetery Piss brings their blackened thrash to the stage as well and the opening band will be Putrisect, a death metal band from Baltimore. This is one hell of an all ages bill for under $15 at a venue with good sound and a solid beer selection too. Still not convinced? Then jam out to the following tunes by the bands playing and get ready to head out to the Metro Gallery this Thursday!

Obliteration – Goat Skull Crown:

Northless – Communion:

Ilsa – Frostthrower:

Cemetery Piss – Such The Vulture’s Love
