Pig Destroyer & Mammoth Grinder tickets & albums give away

2024 is the 20th anniversary of the classic Terrifyer album by local grind legends Pig Destroyer! To mark the occasion, Relapse Records is reissuing the album in a newly remastered version that also includes the 38 minute “Natasha” song and a ton of previously unreleased demos and bonus tracks. If this wasn’t cool enough, Pig Destroyer is playing an album release show for this killer reissue at the Black Cat this Thursday, November 14th of 2024! And if that wasn’t enough, DCHM is going to give away a pair of tickets to this very show, and the winner will also receive a copy of the Terrifyer reissue signed by the band. But wait, there’s more! Relapse Records label mates Mammoth Grinder are playing direct support of Piggy D on this show and they’ve got a new EP coming out, titled Undying Spectral Resonance, and the winner will get a signed copy of that at the show as well! If you’re not into vinyl we’ll make sure you can get another format (probably CD) signed at the show instead. Now to enter just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite metal release of 2024 is so far. Then on Monday, November 11th, 2024 at 5pm Eastern the contest will close and a winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly when you enter so I can contact you if you win. When you leave a comment you must click the little email icon and enter your email in (only I can see the email address) otherwise I won’t be able to contact you if you win. If the selected winner hasn’t written me back within 24 hours then another winner will be selected. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can purchase tickets here.

Pig Destroyer doesn’t play a ton of home town shows so don’t miss this chance to see them at the Black Cat! Direct support comes from Mammoth Grinder and I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention but they now include members of Exhumed and Battlemaster in their line up, so they’re only getting more brutal! Also playing will be Genocide Pact, another Relapse band and also based in DC. They play a modern take on that old school Swedish buzzsaw style of death metal. Opening the show is local band Entrail Asphyxiation, a local death metal/goregrind band that’s been getting a lot of notice lately. Anyways, check out these videos of the bands below and leave a comment telling me your favorite metal album so far of 2024 (Gotta make sure I haven’t missed anything for my end of year lists!)

Pig Destroyer – Gravedancer

Mammoth Grinder – Undying Spectral Resonance

Genocide Pact – Perverse Dominion

Entrail Asphyxiation – s/t EP

Baroness ticket give away

Despite a terrifying bus wreck, several drastic line up changes and member relocations, Baroness has consistently been able to put out great releases and put on killer live shows! Which is why we’re so excited here at DCHM to see Baroness at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Sunday, June 23rd! In fact we’re so excited that we’re going to give away a free pair of tickets to one lucky DCHM reader! To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite Baroness song is! I’ve been loving “Anodyne” off their 2023 release Stone but if you need help picking you can always find their discography here. On Sunday, June 16th, 2024 at 5pm Eastern the contest will close and a winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly when you enter so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info to Sleazy P. Martini. If the selected winner hasn’t written me back within 24 hours then another winner will be selected. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can purchase tickets here.

Baroness is one of those bands that has straddled the line between heavy metal and hard rock but one thing has always been obvious: John Baizley’s ability to bring his vision for the band to life through uncompromising songwriting. They’re sure to put on a killer performance at the Fillmore Silver Spring later this month however there’s two other bands on the bill as well! Direct support will be provided by Ruby The Hatchet, a psychedelic doom band with haunting vocals by frontwoman Jillian Taylor. The opening act is Filth Is Eternal, a pissed off Seattle rock band with lots of punk influences known for their high energy live shows. Now hurry up and leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite Baroness song is!

Baroness – Anodyne

Ruby The Hatchet – Thruster

Filth Is Eternal – Pressure Me

Gwar ticket give away

Universal scum dogs Gwar are embarking on their Age of Entitlement Tour and it’s making a stop at the 9:30 Club on 6/9 (nice). Since everyone is feeling so entitled these days, I’ve got a free pair of tickets to the show up for grabs for one lucky DCHM reader (or even those of you who just showed up to get free stuff). To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite heavy metal concert you’ve been to is! If you’ve never been to one then just tell me you want Gwar to be your first! On Friday, May 31st, 2024 at 5pm Eastern the contest will close and a winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org!

It’s not every day you get to see a live band from all the way down in Antarctica but you’ll love cooling off from the summer heat with a refreshing splash of Gwar sprayed directly into your face! Or you can be one of the suckers standing around in the back wondering why you don’t like fun. Either way, you’re not going to want to miss Gwar! Even better is that Dixie Dave Collins will be bringing his stoner metal band Weedeater along for the ride. Also on the bill are the Gwar side project band X-Cops showing you how not to back the blue, and opening the set will be Squid Pisser which sorta looks like if Ponda Baba had a hardcore band. Now check out these music videos below of all these great bands and leave a comment telling me what the best metal concert you’ve ever been to was!

Gwar’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Weedeater – Mancoon

X-Cops – Light ‘Em Up

Squid Pisser – Liquified Remains

Borracho ticket and prize pack give away!

Local stoner/doom masters Borracho have released their 5th full length album, Blurring the Lines of Reality, and on Saturday, September 9th, they’re holding an album release show at the Runaway in Brookland! DCHM are long time fans of Borracho so I’m excited to be giving away a pair of tickets to the album release show as well as a prize pack that includes some sweet swag like a signed copy of the new album (on your choice of vinyl or CD), a Borracho t-shirt in the size of your choice, a Borracho sticker and high fives from the band! All you’ve got to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me your all time favorite album by a local musician. Then on Wednesday, September 6th at 5pm Eastern the contest will close and a winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org! Be sure to use a valid email you check regularly when you enter so I can contact you if you win. Don’t worry, I won’t add you to any spam lists or sell your info or anything sleazy like that. If the selected winner hasn’t written me back within 24 hours then another winner will be selected. If you can’t wait to see if you win or the contest is already over when you read this, then you can purchase tickets here.

Borracho album release shows are always must-see events but let’s not forget about the two other bands on the bill. Direct support comes from the Frederick, Maryland, based stoner band Faith in Jane. Faith in Jane is a stoner/doom band that I’ve booked myself in the past and I swear they get better each time I see them. The opening band is DC’s own Sorge. They bring a psychedelic vibe to their brand of stoner jams and make this a must see bill from top to bottom. I’m not sure what else there is to say about this killer line up other than to leave a comment telling me what your all time favorite album by a local band is. Don’t forget to check out these killer tunes by the bands on the bill too!

Weedeater ticket give away!

“Dixie” Dave Collins is bringing his band Weedeater to the Black Cat on Thursday, August 31st! We’re hoping you’re as hungry for those yummy stoner riffs as we are so DCHM is giving away a pair of tickets to this very concert! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite stoner album of all time is (by any band). Master of Reality, Welcome to Sky Valley, Dopesmoker, or even Weedeater’s own Jason… the Dragon, any killer stoner album counts! Then on Monday, August 28th at 5pm Eastern, this contest will close and a winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org.

North Carolina’s sludgey stoner band Weedeater always brings the riffs but there’s two other sick bands playing as well! Touring support comes in the form of a rare chance to catch Australian grind/thrash band King Parrot stateside. Local support comes from The Dregs, a new stoner band that’s been gaining attention by playing out a lot despite only having released three songs so far. You can check out each of these bands below while you ponder which album to choose for your favorite stoner album ever!

Hell In The Harbor Fest Give Away

The inaugural Hell in the Harbor Fest is just days away now (May 27th and 28th) and with tickets almost sold out I figured now would be a great time to give away a pair of weekend passes to the fest. To really sweeten the deal I’ve also got a pair of tickets to the pre-fest party on Friday, May 26th at Baltimore Soundstage that is headlined by Candlemass. But wait there’s more! I’ll also be throwing in a swag bag full of merch (some of which is still to be determined) that the winner will pick up at the fest. That’s right, the winner gets 2 weekend passes, 2 pre-fest passes and a swag bag of merch! All you’ve got to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me which band you’re most excited to see at Hell in the Harbor Fest! See the image below with set times for the full line up if you need help remembering. Then on This Friday, May 19th at 1pm Eastern, this contest will close and a winner will be selected from all valid entries using Random.org. Single day tickets are also now available!

Memorial Day Weekend has traditionally been the weekend of Maryland Deathfest every year but the MDF organizers decided to take 2023 off before returning in 2024. That gave local Baltimore venues the chance to book Hell in the Harbor Fest this year which, I gotta say, has a killer line up worthy of the area’s metal fans! Death metal, grind, stoner, black metal, there’s something here for just about every metal head. With three stages, all within a block of each other, the party is going to be raging! So what are you doing still reading this? Go leave a comment on this post and tell me which band you’re the most excited to see at Hell in the Harbor Fest!
